Student's Support System
Career Counselling Cell was established in 2004 to provide placement assistance and information about higher studies and organize campus interviews
The Alumni Association has already performed series of programme viz. Blood Grouping, Health Check-up for female students of the Girls, Seminars on AIDS awareness etc.
For all around development of the students, the college, besides maintaining a healthy academic atmosphere, is very much keen to promote the extracurricular activities of the students.
Student's Union
According to the statute of the University of Calcutta, the college has a democratically elected Students' Union. The Students' union plays a constructive role in the development of the academic atmosphere and in the all round development of the college. The students' union also publishes the college magazine every year. The students' union organises many cultural programmes, cultural & games competition, annual sports, debates, blood donation camps etc. to enrich the co-curricular standard of the students.
A. Students´ Support
Grievance Redressal Cell - The College encourages students to express their grievances without inhibition. They may drop their complaints / suggestions in a Drop-Box, which is opened at regular intervals and complaints are looked into.
Students´ Counselling Cell - The teachers of the college have always been counselling the students informally in personal, academic and career matters. However, the college plans to engage a professional Counsellor soon to help students manage their problems and move towards greater self-actualization.
Medical Aid - Students can avail consultations with specialists in the Student Health Home (Kolkata Regional Centre), to which the college has institutional membership. A nominal fee of Rs. 5/ is charged from each student during admission as membership fee for the Health Home. The college also plans to engage renowned medical practitioners on a regular basis in its own Health Care Unit soon.
Students´ Aid Fund -Poor and meritorious students are provided with Tuition Fee Concessions at the sole discretion of the college authorities. Government scholarships are awarded to students belonging to SC, ST, Minority and Physically Handicapped categories. The Fund also helps general students from economically weak families.
Students Common Room -The spacious room has provisions for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess and Carom.
Canteen - The college canteen tries to cater to different tastes and provides food at reasonable prices to both teachers and students.
Computer Training -The college introduced computer training for its students in the Session 2004-2005. Students enrolled in the first year course in the Computer Centre of the college. Certificates are awarded to students who clear the Test conducted by the Centre.
B. Extension Activities
Awareness campaigns on social issues like HIV/AIDS, gender, women´s health & hygiene etc.
Campus cleanliness and beautification drives
Observance of important days like Independence Day, Republic Day, Women´s Day, College Foundation Day etc.
C. Learning Resource
Library - The library being of great significance in the teaching-learning activities of the college its collection of Textbooks and Reference Books is regularly upgraded on the basis of suggestions from teachers and students. Efforts are currently being made to computerize the library activities and the college has already applied for a standard software for this purpose.
At present the library has separate Reading Rooms for teachers and students and subscribes to a few reputed and peer-reviewed journals for the enrichment of the teachers. Some of the good practices of the library include maintenance of Daily Footfall Register´s for teachers and students, keeping a ´Suggestion / Book Recommendation Box´ to get students´ feedback on its facilities and maintenance of a separate collection of Career-oriented books, journals and newspapers.
D. Computer Facilities
The College has network of computer facilities for various academic and administrative work. At present most of the departments have computers for academic and administrative uses. While making use of these facilities in the scheduled academic programmes of the college including teaching and research, they are also being utilised for building up and processing Library data base, for computerization of office work, and for offering orientation and satellite courses to willing students belonging to diverse academic disciplines. The college is seriously thinking to introduce online admission system from the next academic session.
Students, Grievance Redressal Cell
The college has an effective system of recording complaints and grievances from individual student so that those are promptly addressed to and redressed in order to bring transparency into the functioning of the college.
