The Department of Commerce started its journey in the year 1964. Since 1970-71 academic sessions, the Department has been offering Honours course curriculum of University of Calcutta prior to which it had only Pass (General) curriculum. The Department has the heritage of doing well in the University Examinations and is one of the leading College teaching Commerce stream in UG level under Calcutta University so far as the B.Com.(Hons & Gen) results are concerned.. It shares a very close Teacher-student relationship. The Department feels honoured to have produced many brilliant students who excelled in their further academic and professional endeavours.

A well-stocked partially digitized central library and a departmental library are available for access to the students and teachers of the department. At present the library possesses a rich collection of both text and reference books which get regularly circulated among the students. The teachers of the department take charge of the departmental Library by rotation. Teachers also have access to the departmental Library as and when they need.

The Department of Economics began its journey way back in 1964 since the inception of the college. Being one of the oldest department of this college, it has traversed a long distance in course of all these years. The department started teaching the subject Economics [IFS, MFS, BEEG] as a subsidiary subject for the courses B.Com.(Hons & Gen) of the Dept. of Commerce. From its very beginning, the focus of the department was to ensure a quality education for all its students which not only would enable them to achieve success at the University examination but would also help them in advancement of their career in future. It shares a very close Teacher-student relationship. The Department feels honoured to have produced many brilliant students who excelled in their further academic and professional endeavours. Prof. Prabal Dasgupta joined the Department of Economics after the retirement of Dr. Ajay Chandra Datta in 1999. Prof. Shaikh Abu Musa was appointed as lecturer in 2002 after the resignation Prof. Anjan Kumar Sengupta from the college who intend to join as Principal of Maharaja Sris Chandra College, Kolkata.

The Department of Mathematics began its journey way back in 1964 since the inception of the college. At present, the department offers the subject Mathematics [Business Mathematics & Statistics] as a subsidiary subject for the courses B.Com.(Hons) & B.Com.(Gen) of the Dept. of Commerce. 
Dr. Debasish Mukhopadhyay joined the department in 2001 after the sad demise of Prof. Tapan kumar Sadhukhan. Smt. Debjani Mondal was appointed as lecturer in 2006 after the retirement of Dr. Ajay Kumar Layek. The present Principal Dr. Asit Kumar Sarkar who joined the college on February 2007, also belongs to this department.

The department of Bengali was established in 1964. It was initially entrusted with the responsibility of teaching Bengali language (MIL) for the students who opted for the courses: B.Com(Pass & Hons). The department was at first manned by Prof. Jyotirmay Choudhury and after his retirement, Smt. Sumana Das (Mondal) joined as Lecturer in 1997. The department started teaching the course Bengali (Hons) and Bengali as a General subject for the course BA(General) from the Academic Session 2005-06. Besides curricular studies, discussion on literature and other related topics are encouraged to stock the interests of the students. The teachers are well accessible and try to provide timely feedbacks on their queries. The departmental library is also a significant source of assistance to the students. The department has been fortunate to receive the services of many teachers like Smt. Sanchita Bose (PT Lecturer), Smt. Arpita  Chakraborty (CB Lecturer)  and Prof. Payel Mukherjee(CB Lecturer). At present, there are three teachers.

The history of the Department of English dates back to the very foundation of the College in 1964 and Prof. Prasanta Kumar Bose, the first Principal-in-Charge of the Bangabasi College of Commerce (Acharya Girish Chandra Bose College) headed the Department with the help of Prof. Saradindu Halder started teaching English Language in the existing course curriculum of the college. Initially, the Dept. started teaching English Language as a compulsory paper for the students of B.Com(Pass) & B.Com(Hons) courses. The department of English came into existence in 2005 as a separate department when the University of Calcutta accorded permission to teach the courses English (Hons) and the subject English(Gen). Thus the department of English started its activities with Prof. Sunandan Chakraborty as Head of the Department.
Many illustrious teachers like Smt. Asmita Boral(CB Lecturer), Smt. Suranjana Basu(PT Lecturer), Smt. Aparna Mondal(CB Lecturer), Smt. Sudeshna Chakraborty(CB Lecturer) and  Smt. Roopamala Saha(CB Lecturer) have served the department. At present, there are five teachers.

The teaching of the subject Hindi as a Language was initiated right from the inception of the college in 1964 for the students of B.Com.(Pass)  Course. Many Part- time teachers have served this department upto July 2014. Dr. Priyanka Shah was appointed as fulltime permanent faculty in August 2014. It was initially entrusted with the responsibility of teaching Hindi language (MIL) for the students who opted for the courses: B.Com.(Hons & Gen) and B.A.(Hons & Gen). The department started teaching Hindi as a General subject for the course BA(General) from the Academic Session 2016-17. Besides curricular studies, discussion on literature and other related topics are encouraged for the interests of the students.
